Description
The Data Migration Expert reports directly to the Technical Project Lead. This role is responsible for the accurate and efficient transfer of data between various eCommerce platforms, including Shopify, Magento, BigCommerce, and WooCommerce. The Data Migration Expert is expected to plan, execute, and validate data migrations, ensuring data accuracy and completeness while minimizing business disruption. Strong technical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work cross-functionally with technical and project teams are essential to success.
Key Tasks & Responsibilities:
The Data Migration Expert reports directly to the Technical Project Lead. This role is responsible for the accurate and efficient transfer of data between various eCommerce platforms, including Shopify, Magento, BigCommerce, and WooCommerce. The Data Migration Expert is expected to plan, execute, and validate data migrations, ensuring data accuracy and completeness while minimizing business disruption. Strong technical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work cross-functionally with technical and project teams are essential to success.
Key Tasks & Responsibilities:
- Own the planning and execution of data migrations across eCommerce platforms such as Shopify, Magento, BigCommerce, and WooCommerce.
- Perform detailed data mapping between source and target systems.
- Transform data to ensure compatibility with the destination platform.
- Use tools and scripts to extract, transform, and load data accurately and efficiently.
- Validate data integrity post-migration and perform reconciliation audits.
- Identify and resolve migration issues in a timely manner.
- Provide accurate time and resource estimates for migration tasks.
- Maintain comprehensive documentation of migration processes and procedures.
- Collaborate closely with developers, QA teams, and project managers to ensure smooth project delivery.
- Contribute to improving internal migration practices and explore automation opportunities.
- Stay current with new methods, tools, and platform-specific data structures.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Google Sheets, and CSV file management
- Familiarity with ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes and best practices
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills with high attention to detail
- Strong communication and documentation skills
- Ability to work independently and within cross-functional teams
- Quick learner with the ability to adapt to new tools and technologies
- 2-3 years of experience in data migration, preferably in an eCommerce environment
- Strong understanding of data structures in online stores (products, customers, orders, etc.)
- Experience with scripting languages such as Python, JavaScript, or PHP
- Basic knowledge of SQL (MySQL/PostgreSQL) for querying and validating data
- Understanding of REST APIs and data transfer mechanisms
- Experience automating migration or integration tasks
