DIRECTOR OF QUALITY ASSURANCE AND PROCESS MANAGEMENT
Barrister has an exciting opportunity for a Director, Quality Assurance and Process Management!
This position plays a leadership role in establishing the processes and procedures to ensure efficient and effective controls for the various verticals within Annual Financial Statements (AFS). This position must have a long-term focus on superior operational excellence, continuous improvement, transformation, and ongoing value add to Barrister and stakeholders. To be effective in this role, must be excelling at customer focus, leading teams directly & indirectly, project management, complex problem resolution, and managing processes with an eye towards process improvement aligned with the strategic direction of
Barrister’s global finance & accounting team. This position is also responsible for the team(s)’s preparation, processing, reporting, and / or delivery of service & operational execution.

The position will also be accountable for defining, managing, implementing and on-going execution of an Enterprise-wide balance sheet Quality Assurance (QA) program. The role will develop and oversee a roadmap that ensures decision-makers have ready access to actionable insights from the reconciliation process to drive business performance, while ensuring consistency, quality, and adherence to policy guidelines throughout. This role will champion the collaborative team mindset throughout the organization.
This individual will work remotely temporarily due to COVID-19.

Primary Responsibilities

Strategic

Key leadership role in developing and implementing process and performance management strategies to support Barrister’s AFS team onshore and offshore and impact to the broader Accounting community globally.
Build and maintain strong working relationships with key department stakeholders across teams, functions, and locations to enhance planning, leverage reporting opportunities and improve processes.
Partner with internal and external stakeholders such as AFS Towers, Finance and Accounting, and key business stakeholders to lead and drive related strategies throughout Barrister.
Demonstrated past success at creating or leading a Quality Assurance or internal audit department and instilling a culture of continuous process improvement.
This role will champion and lead targeted strategic initiatives for AFS and Global Accounting.

Operational Excellence

Participate / lead strategic projects that drive successful delivery of goals for Barrister, key functional areas or AFS.
Sharing technical accounting knowledge, training, and developing engagement tools and enablers to build capability for high performance practices.
Implement and manage initiatives with business stakeholders including identifying barriers and establishing solutions in a collaborative manner.
Partners with Global Accounting teams to facilitate identification, prioritization, and initiation of projects; metrics/measures for the QA and functional process areas; and continuous and ongoing process improvements. Develops appropriate reporting and data analytics to track progress and identify trends.
Support the management of All Ideas Matters, continuous improvement program.
Provide operational governance, management and oversight of third-party vendors and contractors.
Development of Engaged, Action Oriented Employees

Ensure atmosphere of continuous improvement with on-going feedback, clear accountabilities and expectations and appropriate utilization of annual performance process and individual development process to drive performance and behavior of the team.
Identify best practices and skill growth opportunities in functional areas to ensure effective ongoing training of staff.
Work closely with staff to understand each individual needs, level or performance and assist in achieving individual excellence within their roles.
Drive the overall value of Process and Performance Management
Key member of the Project Portfolio Management (PPM)leadership team that ensures strategy, processes, and skill developments across the areas, and support the overall governance of goals and initiatives of PPM, Annual Financial Statement (AFS) and AIZ.
Actively promotes innovation and collaboration, provides guidance, uses Barrister network or ideas and problem solving, leads on a cross site basis, actively transfers knowledge, and facilitates consistency.
Coach, train, mentor team & others towards successful development and business outcomes.
Responsibility for the work of others

This position will be responsible for managing a team of associates and their workload which will fluctuate with area needs. Also responsible for managing employee relation issues.
Financial Responsibility
In conjunction with VP, identify needs for the department to be incorporated into the department budget, reporting and consolidation of financial data, forecasting and planning for AFS.
Basic Qualifications Required - Experience, Skills and Knowledge
Qualified CPA with a proven track record in a leadership role.
5+ years’ experience in accounting, finance, audit, or related function
5+ years of general accounting experience, insurance preferred.
Public accounting experience a plus
5+ years management experience
Expert level excels skills.
Strong analytical ability
10-15% Travel
Other Requirements
Advanced knowledge in Microsoft Office Suite
Preferred Experience, Skills and Knowledge

Managing a quality assurance or audit program
Proficient in using Blackline preferred.
Project Management certification
5+ Years of experience in shared service center, audit, and/or financial service industry and/or insurance industry
Six Sigma or equivalent efficiency process experience
Knowledge in software for accounting and financial operations and demonstrated experience on management and control of the processes and financial practices (i.e. SOX, MAR, audits)
Thorough knowledge of general accounting including the application of related theory.
Prior experience leading process improvement initiatives
Experience with automated accounting tools
Prior experience working with Oracle ERP.
Director level performance in:

Strong understanding of US Generally Accepted Accounting Principals (GAAP) and management reporting
Good judgment, collaboration and teamwork, strategic agility, decision-making, building and leading teams.
Excellent presentation, analytics, and communication skills, both written and oral, are required to synthesize key issues and communicate/persuade constituencies towards specific actions and initiatives to all levels within the company,
Ability to manage multiple initiatives, perform under deadline pressure in a fast-paced, high-volume, and changing environment.
Proven ability to building effective relationships in a multi-site, multi-function environment with the complexities of meeting the diverse needs of multiple business lines/stakeholders.
Ability to influence at all levels within AFS, Finance and Accounting, business segments and external resources.
Ability to plan, manage and/or lead projects and provide leadership to accomplish project objectives.
Experience leading and developing tams and staff.
