SYSTEM Administrator

POSITION DESCRIPTION​

Job Summary:

We are seeking a skilled and proactive Systems Administrator to manage, maintain, and improve our IT infrastructure. The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring optimal performance, security, and reliability of our systems, servers, and networks, both on-premises and cloud-based.

Duties and responsibilities:

Install, configure, and maintain operating systems (Linux and/or Windows) and enterprise business applications

Monitor system performance and troubleshooting issues across servers, storage, and application services

Manage user accounts, permissions, and access controls across all systems using Active Directory, LDAP, or local databases.

Perform regular system backups, recovery procedures and redundancy strategies.Manage out-of-the-box backup processes by implementing a clear strategy aligned with company policies

Apply OS patches, updates, and upgrades to ensure system security and compliance

Manage virtualization platforms (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V, Proxmox, XCP-ng - XenServer Based)

Install, configure, and maintain DNS servers (e.g., BIND), RADIUS servers (e.g., FreeRADIUS), and email servers (e.g., Postfix, Dovecot)

Manage and optimize web servers (Apache, NGINX) and ensure secure and efficient web service delivery

Administer database servers (e.g., MySQL, MariaDB, PostgreSQL, MS SQL):

Manage DB users and access rights

Monitor and optimize DB storage space usage

Perform regular DB backups and restorations

Clean or archive data when needed to ensure performance and availability

Troubleshoot and resolve communication or compatibility issues between databases and applications

Administer Active Directory environments, including domain controllers, group policies, user and group management, and access control

Implement and enforce IT policies, security protocols, and data protection strategies

Work closely with development, support, and cybersecurity teams to maintain a secure and efficient IT environment

Document system configurations, procedures, and changes accurately by preparing documentation and user guide tutorials for new applications needed for company staff and/or customers

Maintain updated documents and log files by updating operational log files for serversand CMDB files as per company policy

Write and maintain custom scripts to increase system efficiency and lower the human intervention time on any tasks

Monitor and test application performance for potential bottlenecks, identify possible solutions, and work with developers to implement those fixes

Evaluate technical requirements for new company projects

Liaise with vendors and other IT personnel for problem resolution

Proactively ensure the highest levels of systems and infrastructure availability

Educational Background:	University degree in Computer Science, Telecommunication Engineering or relevant area Post – Graduate Degree Optional Windows/Linux training certification strongly advised
Professional Experience:	3or more years’ work experience in a relatively functional area

Skills and Ability:

Proven experience as a System Administrator or similar role.

Strong inter-personal and communication skills; capable of writing purchase justifications and interacting positively with upper management.

Proven working experience in installing, configuring and troubleshooting Microsoft Windows based environments and Linux environments.

Familiarity with fundamental networking/distributed computing environment concepts; file sharing, DNS, basic network routing concepts.

Strong knowledge of system security, virtualization, and networking (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPN, etc.).

Hands-on experience managing email servers, DNS servers, RADIUS servers, and web servers (Apache and NGINX)

Hands-on experience with Active Directory, including domain management, GPO, and authentication mechanisms.

Hands-on experience with Database administration (MySQL, MariaDB, PostgreSQL, MS SQL) including user management, space monitoring, performance tuning, and backups/restores. Troubleshooting DB-to-application connectivity and integration issues

Experience with monitoring tools (e.g., Zabbix, Nagios, Cacti) and automation (e.g., Ansible, PowerShell, Bash)

A solid understanding of Windows client/server operating systems; understands Active Directory, devices and what device drivers do, Outlook/Exchange messaging

Excellent problem-solving, communication, and documentation skills

Ability to work independently and handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment

Ability to write scripts in some administrative language (e.g., shell scripts, Python)

Certifications such as MCSA(or equivalent Microsoft Certifications),RHCE, LPIC-1/2,CompTIA Server+, CompTIA Linux+ or equivalent. Database-specific certifications (e.g., MySQL DBA, MS SQL Server Admin) are an advantage
