POSITION: LINUX SYSTEMS ADMINISTRATOR
OPENING DATE: Monday, December 17, 2012

Position Summary
The Systems Administrator serves as the technical lead in the design, planning, and implementation of projects involving the company’s most mission-critical IT applications and servers. He or she provides the highest level of support and monitoring of the company’s key applications and servers. The administrator functions as a team lead in his or her area to help evaluate and set direction on the use and integration of new technologies.

This is a hands-on technical position responsible for leading the IT environment at OpenCubed. The Systems Administrator will serve as a technical subject matter specialist responsible for the on-going design, advancement and operation of our products. This position will work closely with Developers/Programmers, and Information Security Analysts.

Essential Job Functions
  • Performs moderately complex systems and database administration. Monitors and tunes appropriate systems to ensure optimum level of performance.
  • Collects and reviews system data for capacity and planning purposes. Analyzes capacity data and develops capacity plans for appropriate level enterprise-wide systems. Coordinates with appropriate management personnel in implementing changes.
  • Supports the design and configuration of complex system.
  • Supports complex data/media recoverability through system backups and database archive operations. Plans, coordinates and directs appropriate level data refresh strategies.
  • Oversees, recommends and implements appropriate level database solutions and enhancements to ensure an improvement in system reliability and performance.
  • Oversees and applies appropriate support packages/patches to maintain system integrity.
  • Managing IT security, including backups, firewalls, and
    routers, ensuring that OpenCubed data is protected against equipment failure as well as
    external security threats.
  • Providing software and hardware support when required, specifically in the absence of
    either specialist;
  • Keeping fully informed on integrated office automation, networking, and security
    technologies, while learning new or upgraded operating systems, hardware and software
    as needed;
  • Develops and maintains appropriate system documentation to ensure that documentation is current. Oversees the maintenance of a library of system-supporting process and procedure documentation.
  • Interacts with client management to answer questions, problems and requests regarding complex system issues.
  • Provides leadership and work guidance to less experienced personnel.

Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or related field preferred
  • Three or more years of experience in a client-server environment
  • Experience working with appropriate complex systems administration and database administration (MySQL required).
  • Experience working with company products and services
  • Experience working with company and client documentation and storage procedures
  • Experience working with complex system implementations and organizational processes

TECHNICAL SKILL REQUIREMENTS
Applicants should have experience and/or education in the following:
  • Linux Server;
  • Configuration and maintenance of file servers and network infrastructure
    hardware; and,
  • Backup and recovery.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Good communication skills
  • Good personal computer and business solutions software skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Professional proficiency in English and/or Italian is mandatory.
  • Knowledge in SaaS, PaaS, IaaS is an advantage
